It’s Wednesday afternoon and I’m not feeling well.
Can I make it tomorrow for our annual cruise?
Every year we get together on KL’s 34-foot cabin cruiser.
We cruise the Gulf Islands of British Columbia ending up on Saltspring.
I’ve known these guys for over half a century.
I joke that we eat a lot and drink a little.
The opposite of what we did as youngsters.
It’s a trip I look forward to eagerly every year.
I once had to skip it because I had “pink eye” and did not want to infect the others.
This Wednesday I felt so horrible, I just wanted to crawl into bed.
But…I have written about the healing power of connection, so…I made the effort to get there.
As soon as I got in the car with FJ to share the ride up-island, I already felt better.
By the time, the four of us shoved off in the Sea Holly, I was again feeling fantastic as I do every time.
I talked to another buddy about this healing experience. Was it a fluke?
He told me of his experience in Afghanistan. He was there before the war with the Soviets.
Five days of being really sick. Couldn’t shake it. He got dragged to a party at the British Embassy.
Connecting with others, enjoying food and drink and what happened?
His illness totally left him and did not return.
It’s nice to read and hear about the healing power of connection.
It’s fantastic to experience the true power of it.
FYI: We did overeat. Even voluminous amounts of ice cream, which is not on my food radar…ever.
Despite that, I felt healthier and stronger after trip.

I suspect connection with others is a daily need.
Much like we need Vitamin C every day, we need Vitamin C for Connection daily as well.
