The vagus nerve is a central nerve that “wanders” all over the body.

 

Re-setting this nerve can relieve muscular tension and therefore anxiety.

 

How?

Thoughts do not directly cause emotions.

 

They cause shifts in the internal state of your body that then change the sensory data sent to your brain which, in turn, shifts your emotional state.

 

Parts of our biology pre-date human language and therefore do not respond to thought based therapies.

 

Muscle tension is dictated by your nervous system. Anxiety is a normal part of our stress response. But it was never intended to be “turned on” all the time.

 

The following are some notes I made for myself from the two Sukie Baxter videos linked below. Do watch the videos to see how to do these exercises.  

 

1)  Hold head to one side, head forward, eyes ONLY to the top. Other side.

2)  Same, pull midriff in opposite direction. 30 seconds plus.

3)  Lie on floor, face down. Support with elbows  under the shoulders. Look to one direction, then the other. 30 seconds each side.

Ear exercises.

    1) Pull ear out, then the other. Note how each feels.

2) massage gently in the little hollow just above the ridge in the ear.

3) back of the ear canal, pull toward back of head, gently massage in small circles.

4) pulling ear away from head. Down and away. Up and away.

    5)  Behind ear, slide skin up and hold.

    6) Slide skin downward behind ear. Hold.

    7) stretch toward back of the head.
