Our Health is Under Attack. Mastery Newsletter July 21, 2025

There are so many health challenges we face, it may as well be a conspiracy.

That’s the bad news.

The good news is there are solutions.

First, let’s take inventory of the many challenges.

BECAUSE if we can clearly identify the problem, we are most of the way to a solution.

So, let’s do that.

Let’s take the time to dig in and be honest about what we are facing.

As uncomfortable as it may be.

First up:

#1. Linoleic Acid (LA)

Linoleic acid (LA), a fat found in vegetable oils, accumulates in your tissues and disrupts mitochondrial function, which drains your energy and slows your metabolism.

This fat becomes toxic when oxidized, producing harmful byproducts that damage DNA, enzymes, and the machinery your cells need to generate energy.

Excess LA damages your gut by interfering with colon cell metabolism, harming beneficial microbes, and promoting inflammation linked to insulin resistance and obesity.

LA’s half-life in body fat is about two years, meaning the damage builds up slowly and requires long-term dietary changes to reverse.” -from Dr. Mercola (bolding is mine)

This is a biggie, but by no means the only challenge we face.

#2. High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)

A cheaper alternative to sugar. It turns off the satiety switch.

That is to say, when you eat anything with HFCS in it, you don’t feel full and satisfied.

It appears to be a major contributor to the obesity epidemic (might as well be the obesity pandemic).

List of challenges with HFCS:

“1. Linked with Obesity: Several studies have shown a direct correlation between increased HFCS consumption and rising obesity rates. HFCS, particularly the fructose component, doesn’t stimulate insulin secretion, which, in turn, fails to suppress ghrelin (the “hunger hormone”). This can lead to increased food intake.

  1. Potential to Cause Fatty Liver Disease: The liver metabolizes fructose, and excessive intake can lead to an overload. Over time, this can cause non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a precursor to more severe liver conditions.

  1. Heart Disease and Diabetes Risk: HFCS can lead to increased triglyceride levels, which heightens the risk of heart disease. Simultaneously, regular and excessive consumption has also been linked to insulin resistance, paving the way for type 2 diabetes.

  1. Other Health Concerns: From accelerating the aging process due to the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) to the potential link to certain cancers, HFCS’s health ramifications are vast and concerning.”

Also

“The Chameleon Names of HFCS. The food industry, well aware of the public’s growing wariness of HFCS, often resorts to labeling tactics that make its presence less obvious. Here are some of the alternative names under which HFCS might be hiding in your foods:

  1. Fructose
  2. Fructose Syrup
  3. Corn Syrup
  4. Corn Syrup Solids
  5. Corn Sweetener
  6. Maize Syrup
  7. Glucose/Fructose Syrup
  8. Isolated Fructose
  9. Fruit Fructose
  10. Crystalline Fructose

#3. Sugar. A thousand years ago, Arab doctors used sugar as a medicine of last resort. (William Dufty in SUGAR BLUES)

When all else failed, two or three grains of sugar would often heal the patient.

It is a pure chemical (C12H22O11).

A quick search indicates the average consumption of sugar in America is about 17 teaspoons a day. About 60 pounds a year.

So what?

Another search shows why this is a challenge:

“Excess sugar consumption can lead to a variety of health problems, including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers.

This is the only a partial list of challenges we face in the 21st Century.
