My name is Matti Anttila. I’m a Certified Laughter Yoga Teacher. At one of our weekly Laughter Yoga classes, we did an exercise where we try to make a person laugh or smile while they did their level best NOT to smile.

 

One person asked what was the purpose of that exercise? She answered the question herself when she said: “It was painful not to smile.”

 

And that is the discovery that I made:

 

Our Normal Way Of Being Is Painful. Not Being Happy Is Actually Painful!

 

We are taught to be serious, because: “Life is serious, don’t you know. I have to earn a living and I’m stressed out. I have to bear down and work hard and there’s no a time to be frivolous.”

 

It’s painful to live this way! And when we are in pain, it’s hard to get things done.

 

The Latest Scientific Research Has Proven Beyond Doubt:

 

We Can Be More Successful By Being Happy First!

 

The myth we have been programmed to believe is this: Work hard to achieve your goals and then you can be happy.

 

The problem with this model for happiness is: IT DOESN’T WORK!! This model is broken.

But, how do you get happy with all these problems?

Instead, why not create a life that is blissful, joyous and happy. That way, we can throw out our crutches, one by one.

 

Tell me: How much money can we save each and every year if we did not need to buy “stuff’ to make ourselves feel good?

 

“Shop till you drop” seems to be the mantra to chase after that good feeling.

 

How about just turning on the “Joy Key” whenever you want and saving hundreds on each shopping trip? Doesn’t that sound like a better strategy?

 

Look, there is nothing wrong with having “stuff.” In fact, you deserve to have pleasant surroundings. AND, this is one of the great secrets of the Universe:

Well…IT’S TRUE!!!! It happens every day to me.

 

Imagine having such a strong smile that many people on the street smile back at you.

 

You can have that too.

 

That is, if you choose.

 

Not everyone is ready to let go of entrenched habits. Habits that may cause something less than joy.

Prisoners have to have one of the worst situations. Locked away, told what to do and when to do it every day.

Laughter Yoga Project in Prisons in Mexico aims to Unleash Happiness

 

Luis Gomez has a heart for doing Laughter Yoga in the penitentiary system in Mexico City. He has a very large goal of reaching out to every prisoner and to help empower them to tap into their inner happiness. The aim is in alignment with Laughter Yoga International to create World Peace starting with peace within ourselves.

 

Ideally, by practicing laughter yoga, prisoners will be reminded to make better choices for themselves…

 

In the Instituto Mexicano de Yoga de la Risa (Mexican Laughter Yoga Institute) we are convinced of the healing powers of this technique that gives the opportunity of empowering other human beings to remember that happiness exists within every single one of us, no matter the conditions in which we are, and from then on, we can establish harmonious relationships with the rest of the people…

 

In general the inmates are very grateful for all what they’ve got from the meetings. They said that they feel a refresher every time they do it. They feel free. They think that the exercise exercises help them to realize that they can cultivate their internal peace. If Laughter Yoga can work for prisoners in a Mexican jail to access their inner happiness, it just may work for you.

 

Caveat: No one can force you to laugh.

 

You do have to bring your willingness to the table.

 

But, I guarantee you this:

Laughter Helps in Cancer Prevention

 

Laughter Yoga works with the breath to open up to fuller and healthier breathing.

 

Dr. Otto Warburg, the President of the Institute of Cell Physiology and two times a Nobel Prize winner, says this:

 

“Deep breathing techniques increase oxygen to the cells and are the most important factors in living a disease-free and energetic life. When the cells get enough oxygen, cancer will not and cannot occur.

 

In fact, Laughter Yoga was inspired by a response to disease by an enlightened patient.

 

Founder Dr. Madan Kataria read about Norman Cousins who laughed himself back to health.

 

Cousins was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, a painful form of arthritis.

 

Many die from this disease. The pain can be so great that sleep can become impossible.

 

Cousins decided to go out laughing!

 

So, he brought in Marx Brothers movies into his hospital room and started laughing.

 

Norman Cousins laughed himself back to health

“Told that he had little chance of surviving, Cousins developed a recovery program incorporating megadoses of Vitamin C, along with a positive attitude, love, faith, hope, and laughter induced by Marx Brothers films.

 

“I made the joyous discovery that ten minutes of genuine belly laughter had an anesthetic effect and would give me at least two hours of pain-free sleep,” he reported. “When the pain-killing effect of the laughter wore off, we would switch on the motion picture projector again and not infrequently, it would lead to another pain-free interval.”

Long before I read that quote, I decided not to go a traditional route.

 

Working hard to age 65, retiring exhausted and then dying shortly thereafter was not an appealing career path.

 

Thus, I pursued a number of opportunities as they came up: Promoting rock and roll performances, driving taxi, Disc Jockey, radio reporter and talk show host.

 

I have owned a bakery and restaurant, been a financial planner, baby photographer and most recently a consultant.

 

My most passionate interest is in health, fitness, longevity and human potential.

 

It seems many of us humans only realize a small portion of our full potential.

 

Hence, Laughter Yoga, which can help to free us of many of the blocks to creativity and our potential.

Laughter Yoga:

 

Is efficient exercise (One minute of hearty laughter is equal to 10 minutes of rowing or jogging -Dr. W. Fry, Journal of General Psychology, 1938)

Makes you rich! (not really, but sometimes we can’t imagine how any rich person could possibly feel better than we do after a laughter session!)

 

Isn’t that enough already? What, you want it to cure cancer too? Well, as a matter of fact, read this quote from Dr. Otto Warburg, president of the Institute for Cell Physiology, and twice a Nobel Prize winner:

 

Deep breathing techniques increase oxygen to the cells and are the most important factors in living a disease-free and energetic life. When cells get enough oxygen, cancer will not and cannot occur.” (My italics)

A Note re the “cost” of Certified Laughter Yoga Leader Training.

 

Your investment is $397. There is usually a $50 early bird discount.

Should you choose to pursue Laughter Yoga as a part time business, You may soon recover that.

Certified Laughter Yoga Leaders will often have a non profit club. In my club, I tell participants that Laughter Yoga is free or by donation. There is no requirement to pay as we don’t want anyone to stay away because of financial concerns.

I also say the suggested donation is $5 to $15. I average about $7 per person as a result.

Last week, $70 in donations were made.

And that is just the donation non profit side of Laughter Yoga.

If you go out and get paid engagements, that is a different story.

My corporate rate is $550.00 an hour and the non profit rate is $180.00 an hour. These rates are negotiable, of course, but it is always wise to start the negotiations at a decent rate for yourself.

Even if you do a few non profits, they will often have SOMETHING in the kitty for speakers. I have done session for free (rarely) and as a little as $90. More often it is the $180 rate.

Once, I did 3 one hour session in one day for an educational institution at $250 for each session. That was a $750.00 day.

So, what is called a “cost,” is really an investment in your future. An investment that can pay high dividends.

I used to be a financial advisor. If you have a financial investment, a decent dividend is 3-5%, somewhat higher for riskier situations. On $397, that would be $11.91 to $19.85 per year.

With a Certified Laughter Yoga designation and an entrepreneurial approach, you can choose to create an ongoing business that can produce hundreds of percent return on your initial outlay.

Claiming Your Joy Workshop Mastery Newsletter Update March 11. 2015

You know by that I have received lots of benefits from Laughter Yoga. (How could you not know, I have been bending the ears of anyone who gets close to me 🙂 )

 

And you know I wrote The Zen of Joy to support the “journey of joy.”

 

Now, another “protocol” or set of techniques has shown up. It is the Trauma Release Process.

 

Basic idea is that we have some level of trauma in our past.

 

It could be skinning our knees as kids…or more serious physical injury.

 

It could be emotional trauma…losing your first love as an example.

 

Animals shake off trauma. Humans in our society tend not to.

 

The stress hormones are useful and required for the gazelle to escape the lion. When it does, it shakes and trembles for a couple of minutes. That releases the stress hormones, the cortisol and so on, and stops the production of further stress hormones.

 

Then the animal continues on as if nothing happened.

 

What do humans do?

 

We tend to hang on to stressful events. The stress hormone production continues unabated. We find ourselves in a state of continuous stress production.

 

This has huge implications for our health. When we are in “fight or flight” mode, all the other systems, digestion as an example, are not getting energy. They are basically shut down or operating at minimum level.

 

The Trauma Release Process which I am now doing 3 to 4 times a week is designed to artificially create trembling to release the tensions/stresses we carry from layers of trauma, big and or small.

 

I have to tell you it is the only thing that has started to address some physical tensions that have not been helped by anything else up to now.

The Power of the Heart: Your Heart’s GPS

 

Your heart has a GPS very similar to your car’s Global Positioning System.

 

Like the car GPS, it directs you to your destination.

 

Unlike your car’s GPS, where you punch in your destination, the destination is hard wired into your heart: it is Your Highest Good.

 

If you ignore your car’s GPS and don’t make the turn it recommends, it will recalibrate your route.

 

In the same way, if you don’t follow your heart’s promptings, your heart too, will recalibrate.

 

Your heart is always leading you to Your Highest Good.

 

Your heart’s GPS speaks to you in your intuition. It may make you uncomfortable or irritable in order to get your attention. It may communicate in a dream or a song you can’t get out of your head.

 

However your intuition communicates, trust it. You may have to follow it blindly before you see how accurate it is.

 

The heart actually has a brain. This brain is superior to the brain in our heads.

 

Many of the problems in our lives and indeed in the modern world may be traceable back to allowing the brain in our heads, the logical side of us, to run the show, instead of allowing the heart’s brain, our intuition, to lead the way.

 

The brain in our cranium is woefully inadequate to the task. It always and forever can only see part of the picture.

 

Albert Einstein said: “The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant.”

 

 

The heart is plugged into infinite intelligence and can see the larger picture. It can warn us of disasters or “accidents” waiting to happen in our path and steer us away from them.

 

It can shorten the distance to our destination…but only if we learn to follow the intuitive messages it sends to us.

 

How do we do that?

 

The suggestion from the book The Power of the Heart, by Baptist de Pape is that our intention is the first step. de Pape quotes the writer and poet Ilyas Kasam: “It is more important to be of pure intention than of perfect action.”

 

The Zen teacher Thich Nhat Hanh says to ask some questions before taking action.

 

“Am I sure?” can help to head off wrong perceptions.

 

“Is my intention right for now?

 

“Am I acting automatically or out of habit?”

 

Finally: “Is my intention based in loving kindness, in compassion and well-wishes for others?”

 

By listening for the answer, the first thought that comes up after each question, we may find our practice of listening to intuition strengthening over time.

An abnormal microbiome is a factor behind inflammation, food cravings, obesity, type 2 diabetes, autoimmune diseases, and many of the other chronic diseases seen today.

 

When your gut flora is unhealthy, leaky gut syndrome can develop whereby food particles leach into your bloodstream where they can trigger allergic and inflammatory responses.

 

An abnormal microbiome can also lead to depression and other emotional and physical problems, because your gut bacteria provide a significant source of your amino acids, vitamins and other important compounds. Three major ones are ATP, tryptophan and serotonin.
