Dedicating Life to a Good Ending. Mastery Newsletter, October 14, 2022
Former Beatle George Harrison passed away at the age of 58.
His widow Olivia Harrison is quoted as saying:
“George dedicated a lot of his life to obtain a good ending and I don’t have any doubt that he was successful.”
I saw another thought: The ultimate goal of life is death.
Reflecting on this, I note that only death can be our final goal. All other goals are temporary, transitory and will eventually be eclipsed by our death.
So, did George Harrison have the ultimate wisdom?
Dedicating a lot of his life to a good ending?
What would this look like for you and I?
The Beatles 1969 album Abbey Road has a lyric (I believe by Paul McCartney):
“And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”
In the 1990 movie Ghost starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, Patrick’s character is dead but communicating with the living.
He sends a message to his lover played by Demi Moore.
That message? We leave our bodies, but we get to keep the love.
How then must we live?
By loving. Or as the mystic Ram Dass says becoming love. Radiating love to all.
The more we do, perhaps the more we get to take with us when we shuck the mortal coil.
A tall order? Possibly, but then you and I are incarnated in this time and place to meet that challenge.
The challenge of becoming love in a world gone mad.
How?
By living in the present moment. Fully. Being open to the ecstasy and the pain of being human.
Last word to George Harrison:
“Nothing exists except now. You know the past is gone and the future doesn’t exist until you get to it and then it’s the now. So you just have to be here now, and umm, do your best.”
