These Few Books Can Produce 90% of Your Results In Life. Mastery Newsletter August 2, 2017

Written by joyenergyandhealth on . Posted in Blogs, Joy, Energy and Health, Mastery Newsletter

Out of the 200+ books I admit to reading, these are the 10%. (It only works out to 4 books per year over 50 years of reading. A bit disappointing really. Considering Elon Musk supposedly reads 2 books a day. I will not be an Elon Musk…sigh.)

My thinking is…there are lots of resources out there. 20% will be fantastic and produce 80% of my results. 20% are not worth looking at. And 60% are good, but will not produce the same results that the top 20% will.

This is my short list for you. Categorized into five different areas of study.

Spirituality

Yogananda, Paramahansa. Autobiography of a Yogi. This is a classic. It can cause a total re-evaluation of how life really works.

Loss and Abandonment. Mastery Newsletter July 26, 2017

Written by joyenergyandhealth on . Posted in Blogs, Joy, Energy and Health, Mastery Newsletter

3 AM. I wake up. Upset with something I didn’t do.

A Facebook friend’s dog died. I didn’t pass on this information to a mutual friend who doesn’t frequent Facebook.

In the past, I had related some of her adventures.

Why not this loss?

The thoughts that arose in the middle of the night. (I have learned to pay attention to the intuitions that come in the night):

I was 7 years old when we left Finland and emigrated to Canada. We left behind a dog, Jerry.

My brother, who is 6 years older, remembers that event very well. He brought it up in conversation this past weekend.

Not only did I not remember the dog’s name, the only reason I know we even had a dog, was because mom and my brother have talked about him.

I suspect it had a traumatic effect on me. I must have loved the dog very much.

I think I have put pets at an emotional distance because of that trauma of leaving Jerry. I must have wiped any conscious memory of leaving Jerry behind.

That emotional distance perhaps caused me to disengage from the pain of my Facebook friend losing her dog.

Even as I write this, I can feel the emotion rising.

What comes up here is to forgive myself for creating this emotional distance. To truly forgive and love myself.

I am working on opening up to feeling more, as painful as it can be.

Releasing is the work.

Meditation. Awareness. Breathing. Exercise. Laughter Yoga.

Are my issues around loss connected to this loss of a childhood friend, Jerry?

Are my abandonment issues connected to me abandoning our dog?

As a 7-year-old, I had no choice. Is lack of control in my life connected to loss and abandonment issues?

Do we wipe out memory and connection to our deeper traumas? That may be a mechanism to cope with deep trauma.

How to bring closure?

Meditating and asking for forgiveness for abandoning him?

These are the questions I focus on today.

Thank you for listening.

10 Steps to Mastering the Art of Joyful Living http://gailbrenner.com/2011/06/10-steps-to-mastering-the-art-of-joyful-living/

“I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in darkness the astonishing light of your own being.”
~Hafiz of Persia

Are you moving too fast to enjoy life? Are you caught up in problems and struggles? Are you pressing forward on automatic, burning the candle at both ends?

This post is all about slowing down – and I’m writing it for myself as much as for anyone reading this. Because it’s time to stop, be still, hop off the treadmill, and return to sanity.

It’s so easy to slip away from being aware. Even with the best of intentions, before we know it, we find ourselves moving mindlessly through life. We go through the motions, taking care of obligations, inhabiting habit patterns, and meanwhile longing for a time when the to-do list is empty. Our minds are caught in mental whirlwinds while we are missing out on what is already here.

We feel separate, deadened, and half-alive.

Joyful living takes commitment. It asks us to be awake and aware in the moments of our lives. It invites us to stem the momentum of our habits so we can reclaim peace, appreciation, wonder, awe, presence.

Do you want to master the art of joyful living? Integrate these 10 steps in your life, and the seeds of joy will flourish endlessly.

  1. Bring silence and stillness into your life

If we turn down the volume on all the noise in our lives, we discover the amazing fact that silence and stillness are already here. And when we intentionally allow ourselves to be still, we naturally open to a deep appreciation of the present moment. We become relaxed, grounded and clear, and stress begins to melt away.

How can you bring silence into your life? When can you stop and be still?

  1. Clean up

Someone recently told me she feels disgusted when she looks into her closet because of all the clutter. It”s a shame because every moment of disgust is a moment empty of joy.

If there is anything you are procrastinating about, anything you can easily fix, anyone who drags you down, pay attention. Don’t wait or settle for good enough. Carve out the time, figure out a solution, and clean it up. You are making the space for joy, peace, and happiness to illuminate your life.

  1. Mind your own business

Do you want to be unhappy and frustrated? Then try controlling things you can’t actually do anything about. Like other people or most situations or the past or future.

If you are caught in an emotional reaction, turn the mirror onto yourself. Let the story go, and see what is actually true in your direct experience. Bring compassion right into the places where it is needed most.

Diligently work on the areas where you get stuck, and joy will naturally shine through you.

  1. Give to others whatever you feel you are lacking

So many of us want attention, love, and understanding. We live in a state of lack, thinking that life can begin if only we get what we think we need.

Consider that you may not actually need what you think you need. It might just be an old story that has outworn its welcome.

Instead of living in lack, contemplate generosity. Give out to others what you want or need. Pull out the stops in offering attention, interest, and caring. Your sense of lack will be transformed into fullness. Believing you don’t have enough becomes love overflowing.

  1. Use your senses

Life is so abundant right before our very eyes. Slow down and take the time to see, hear, taste, touch, and smell. Eating an apple becomes a sensual delight, doing the dishes a symphony.

  1. Recognize what is working

It is so easy to focus on problems and unhappy feelings. They grab our attention and won’t let go like a dog feasting on a juicy bone.

Take stock of what is working in your life. Is your living situation a good one? Do you know people who you love and appreciate? Do you enjoy your daily runs or a good home-cooked meal? Simply look around you, and you may be surprised by the bounty that is already present.

  1. Live in forgiveness

If a grudge is interfering with your joy of life, then it requires your loving attention. Don’t let the minutes tick by while you live in self-righteousness or regret. Neutralize the stories from the past, and make the choice to live joyfully now.

Then live in amends. If you feel wronged by someone or you hurt another, deal with it. Don’t let it fester. Make a lifestyle of living free from hurts and grudges. You will feel strong, clear, and empowered.

  1. Learn from life experiences

Sometimes the road of life is a bumpy one. If you want to master joyful living, be open to learning from the challenges that life brings you. Be honest about what buttons get pushed and recognize when you have dropped into a hole that you can’t seem to find your way out of.

Difficult life experiences are designed to show us the areas in our lives where we are not yet free. Use these situations well for your own liberation. You might have noticed that the teachings come until we understand the lesson. If there is a self-defeating pattern playing out in your life, slow it down so you can become conscious of what you are doing. Then make different, better choices with your eyes wide open.

  1. Be pleasant

No matter what is going on in your life, show up in an open, good-natured way. No one likes a Negative Nancy. Stop complaining, and instead be patient, open, kind, and agreeable in your day-to-day life.

  1. Move in the direction of joy

Every moment offers a choice. Take a look at your life, and it will show you what you value. Are you choosing stress, conflict, and unhappiness?

Joy provides the perfect barometer for navigating through life. All you need to do is recognize what brings you joy, then follow it. Simple, right? Make room in your life for what is positive, light, and life-affirming.  You will have mastered the art of joyful living.

It Didn’t Start With You. How Inherited Trauma Affects Us Daily. Mastery Newsletter July 19, 2017

Written by joyenergyandhealth on . Posted in Blogs, Joy, Energy and Health, Mastery Newsletter

How Inherited Trauma Affects Us Daily

 What To Do About It

Traumatic experiences can be passed down through generations.

You and I can have trauma lodged in our bodies from what happened to our parents, our grandparents and even our great-grandparents.

We can have trauma that has nothing to do with our personal life experiences.

This is a new take on the influences in our lives.

Author Mark Wolynn is the founder of The Family Constellation Institute.

His book It Didn’t Start With You explores how ancestral trauma can have a negative impact on our everyday lives.

He relates the story of Jesse, who woke up freezing at 3.30 in the morning.

Could not get warm, no matter how many blankets. Could not fall asleep. Each time he started to drift off, he would jolt awake. He felt that if he fell asleep, he would not wake up again. Jesse had just turned 19.

Wolynn traced it back to Jesse’s uncle. Uncle Colin had been checking power lines in the Yukon when he froze to death. Uncle Colin was 19.

Jesse had not even known about the existence of Uncle Colin. But three decades later Jesse unconsciously relived aspects of Colin’s death.

That included the terror of letting go into sleep. For Colin, letting go meant death. For Jesse, falling asleep took on the same meaning.

Wolynn’s book has exercises to address ancestral trauma: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/26026054-it-didn-t-start-with-you

Here is what rituals I developed for myself from Wolynn’s work.

First, I wrote down what I knew about my mother and father’s traumas.

Father served in the Finnish army and navy during the Winter War and the Continuation War. These are two wars Finland fought with the Soviet Union during 1939-40 and 1941-44.

Finland’s population was 5 million. The Soviets? 108 million. For dad, it must have felt overwhelming. Like a big bully beating up on him.

It had enough of an impact that he packed up the family after the war and moved us to Canada. To get away from the bully doing it again.

Mom lost her mother when she was young. She also lost a sister early on.

The exercise I use is adapted from Wolynn’s. I imagine I am talking to mother and father in turn. I ask what can I do to ease their pains. I listen for the answer from my intuition.

I get and understand that neither of my parents want me to suffer and wish the best for me.

I ask for and receive their blessing for the best to unfold in my life.

I can then turn to the grandparents I never knew and do the same exercise with them.

Further, I use Ho’oponopono.

The incantation there is: “I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you.” I do this while holding my ancestors in mind.

Here is the story on Ho’oponopono from Chapter 9 of The Zen of Joy:

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“From the intro of Joe Vitale’s book Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More.

Zero Limits reveals the breakthrough self-improvement approach that has helped people who are overworked, overstressed, and just plain overwhelmed deal effectively with removing self-imposed limitations in their lives that are often manifest as chaos, disease, and poverty.

Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len is a therapist who cured an entire ward of criminally insane patients—without ever seeing any of them!  Dr. Len looked inside of himself to see how he had created the condition in the patient. As he improved himself, the patient improved.  This was at the Hawaii State Hospital where Dr. Len worked for four years in a ward that was dangerous. Staff quit monthly and were on sick leave a lot.

They walked down the hallways with their backs to the wall, afraid of getting attacked by the patients.  Dr. Len did not see patients and did not go to case conferences. He stayed in his office. He looked at a client file and while doing so, worked on himself.  As he worked on himself, the patients began to heal. In three years, patients who had been shackled were allowed to walk free. Others came off their medications. And the facility was closed. Only two patients were transferred to another facility. The rest were released.

Dr. Len explained to Joe Vitale that we have total responsibility for anything and everything that is in our lives, simply because it is in our lives. As I understand it and view it now: we are all one, there is really only one being on the planet, and all who show up in our lives are simply showing us a mirror of another aspect of ourselves.

Joe Vitale:  “In a literal sense the entire world is your creation.  Whew. This is tough to swallow. Being responsible for what I say or do is one thing. Being responsible for what everyone in my life says or does is quite another.  Yet, the truth is this: if you take complete responsibility for your life, then everything you see, hear, taste, touch, or in any way experience is your responsibility because it is in your life.

This means that terrorist activity, the president, the economy or anything you experience and don’t like—is up for you to heal. They don’t exist, in a manner of speaking, except as projections from inside you.  The problem isn’t with them, it’s with you, and to change them, you have to change you.”

So what is this powerful protocol that Dr. Len used to heal himself and consequently the patients who were mirroring what was going on inside of him?

The Ho’Oponopono Incantation: “I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you.”

As I understand it, we can just say that and/or we can say it with a person or situation in mind while we say it.  Joe again: “Turns out that loving yourself is the greatest way to improve yourself, and as you improve yourself, you improve your world.”

http://educate-yourself.org/zsl/hooponopono25jul06.shtml

If you read Joe’s book, you will find many examples of miracles. http://www.zerolimits.info/

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

While it can seem somewhat overwhelming, trust that there are solutions.

Here is an incantation I find powerful:

“Divine creator, father, mother, son as one…

If I, my family, relatives and ancestors have offended you, your family, relatives, and ancestors in thoughts, words, deeds, and actions from the beginning of our creation to the present, we ask your forgiveness…

Let this cleanse, purify, release, cut all the negative memories, blocks, energies, and vibrations, and transmute these unwanted energies to pure light…And it is done.”

One aspect of this I find poignant.

Our ancestors are no longer on this plane. It may be that it is our responsibility to help them by clearing the trauma they left behind.

It may be one of our biggest responsibilities in this world.

May this information help to bring to light and clear any hidden traumas in our lives.

Win Your Day With Morning Rituals. Mastery Newsletter July 3, 2017

Written by joyenergyandhealth on . Posted in Blogs, Joy, Energy and Health, Mastery Newsletter

Getting your day off to a good start is critical…if you want to have a fun and productive day.

Credit to Tim Ferris, author of 4 HOUR WORK WEEK and 4 HOUR BODY.

He inspired me to create my own set of morning rituals.

This list of tasks is what I aim for.

Ideal would be all of them.

Realistically, if I get some of them done, I consider it a win.

The most important ones are highlighted.

Gratitude: I Give thanks for the air, the water, the food and the shelter. Thank you for my wife, my family and friends to love and learn from. Thank you for the joy, love, energy and abundance. Thank you for the money, the healing and the prosperity. Thank you for all the blessings I have and all the blessings I am receiving.

Release incantations/afformations: I say this while focusing on the appropriate area: “How is it so easy for me to release and heal my teeth, my gums, my jaw, my tongue, my neck and my back?”

Usually for a minimum of 20 seconds.

Massage my colon. To help keep it tuned up. Some digestion issues recently. This is helping.

Massage the trauma muscles to help them release, i.e. the diaphragm and the iliopsoas. This is help release trauma in the body. These are the muscles that have been identified as holding stress and trauma.

Drybrush the whole body.

Ice bath 5 minutes. Not every day. Sometimes a cold shower, followed by hot and finishing off with one minute of cold.

While in the bath, Ho’ponopono one minute each “I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you.”

In turn I will focus on my brother, my wife, my mom and dad and all my ancestors.

That takes three minutes.

Then one minute of release incantations from earlier followed by one-minute incantation of “My blood, my skin and my cells are clear and healthy!”

Hot shower to wash with. One-minute cold shower. This is Wim Hof, the Iceman ritual.

Get out of shower.

Clean sink and toilet.

Get dressed.

Make the bed.

Open at least one window to allow outside chi to circulate.

Yoga positions: Headstand, Raven and plank.

Drink 8 ounces of water. Sometimes psyllium with two cups of water. Sometimes a salt water flush. This is one quart or litre of warm water with 2 teaspoons of high quality sea salt. This flushes the small and large intestines.

Wim Hof breathing. This is 3-4 rounds of 30-40 deep breaths, followed by breath retention. I aim for 3 minutes by the third round. Some days followed by push-ups with breath held.

10 minutes horse stance.

Meditation. 10 minutes. Deepak and Oprah meditations are great for this.

Earth increase sound: Huuuu six times. This one is from Barefoot Doctor. Helps to lift money worries.

Healing sex trauma sound: Vuuuu. Helps to heal the sacred wound. Many of us are wounded in the sexual arena.

View Daily Documents. These are a set of inspiration thoughts and quotes. I view a few pages each day.

Journal: Gratitude and What would make today great?

Write a haiku. A Japanese non rhyming poem. Three lines. First and third lines are five syllables. The second line is seven syllables.

I hope to add a half hour of reading and/or study to this eventually.

Here is this morning’s haiku:

Dew on the green grass

Morning laughter Beacon Hill Park

Leaves me with a smile

Define Your Fears. Mastery Newsletter July 2, 2017

Written by joyenergyandhealth on . Posted in Blogs, Joy, Energy and Health, Mastery Newsletter

Fears are best faced.

Better than running away from them.

Sometimes they can immobilize us.

Stoicism to the rescue.

“Easy choices, hard life. Hard choices, easy life.” –Jerzy Gregorek, the Lion of Olympic weightlifting.

Some tips from Tim Ferris:

Separate what you can control or do something about from what you can’t control.

Focus on the former.

First,

Define: What are the worst things that can happen?

Spend 10-20 minutes listing all the very worst thing that might happen. Leave nothing out.

Prevent: What can I do to prevent each of these things from happening?

Repair: If the worst happens, what can I do to repair the damage? Even a little?

Benefits: What might be the benefits of an attempt at a solution? Spend 10-15 minutes on this.

Cost of inaction? What is the cost of doing nothing? Spend up to 10 minutes on this.

Tim recommends doing this at least 4 times a year.
