Try this out. Put a pencil or a finger in between your teeth. Notice what happens in the body.

 

Do you get the same as me? A warm tingling throughout your body?

 

Your system is creating endorphins, the feel good hormone.

 

You can have this good feeling any time.

 

Your experiment, should you wish to do so, is to smile at three people today.

 

Just as you walking down the street minding your own  business.

 

Now, the trick is to do it for YOU, not them.

 

Just like a lighthouse shines its light whether there are ships to see it or not, shine your light, your smile, whether others react or not.

 

Try to disconnect any need to receive validation from others. You are smiling for YOU, not them.

 

Some will return your smile. Others may not.

 

It is of no consequence.

 

YOU are benefiting. You create healing endorphins for YOU.

 

Your challenge is to continue to access your smile more and  more…and get the joy that comes with it.

 

Have fun, go forth and be joyous.

A Christmas gift for you as an appreciation for being in my life.

 

The gift is a song that is designed to reduce anxiety.

 

Musicians teamed up with sound therapists to carefully arrange harmonies, rhythms and bass lines. These slow a listener’s heart rate and blood pressure. They also lowering stress hormones like cortisol.

 

Researchers at Mindlab International in the U.K. tested a number of songs.

 

They found one song that resulted in a striking 65 percent reduction in participants’ overall anxiety.

 

Maybe this will help with all the seasonal rushing around we do. Enjoy.

That just about sums up life, huh? 3 cold/flu bugs this year…what the heck???

 

Got rear ended. Insurance paying for chiropractor treatments. Good. Might be better than new when done.

 

Toastmasters have loomed large. Gave a Keynote speech from the Professional Speakers Manual.

 

Title: Solutions to all Dis-eases, Adventures in Joy. This is developing my public speaking skills and working toward giving more talks as well as seminars and workshops.

 

Laughter Yoga stuff: I had another Leader training session. I love doing those so much.

 

Looking forward to developing similar weekend workshops in joy. Working title: Joy Master Class. What do you think?

 

UK and Finland in May and June. 5 awesome weeks with family. Hot weather. Saunas. Love all my family. Very special. They are all so gracious in hosting us. A great 70th Birthday celebration with most of the family present. What a blessing.

Health, A Success Basic. Mastery Newsletter December 15, 2016

Goes without saying…or it should.

 

The very definition of success ought to include health.

 

Without health to enjoy the fruits of our labours, what’s the point?

 

If we toil all our lives to gain material success and destroy health in the process, well…

 

Yet, we see it all the time, don’t we?

 

Boomers are starting to notice it. Family and friends with afflictions, ranging from too many flu bouts to heart disease or cancer or diabetes. A host of other conditions too numerous to mention.

 

Doctors and other health practitioners tell us that we do have some measure of control.

 

The usual suspects: diet, exercise, lifestyle habits.

 

These are not disputed any more.

 

Yet, somehow, we miss the mark. What can we do to optimize health?

Time, Energy, Focus

 

We all have the same number of minutes each day.

 

My contention is we all need to devote SOME of those minutes to the study of health and wellbeing.

 

We need to devote some energy and some of our focus on achieving and maintaining health.

 

You can get too carried away with it, like me. J

 

If we worry about our health, that in and of itself can create health problems.

 

There is a middle ground.

 

One the one hand some say: “It’s all up to the universe and the genes my parents passed on to me”

 

Others get obsessed and worry too much.

 

How about just chipping away at the basics?

 

Devoting some time weekly. Daily is better of course, but that can come with time.

 

The “Health Study Pathway” can be great fun.

 

When we learn something positive, put it into use and notice a positive result, then…

 

Then we can get more curious and have fun with it.

 

Life should be fun.

Energy is a Success Basic. Mastery Newsletter December 6, 2016

To be successful, we need some basic building blocks.

 

Joy is one such block. Energy is another. (Joy post here: http://joyenergyandhealth.com/2016/11/29/joy-master-class-mastery-newsletter-november-30-2016/ )

 

However you define success, you need energy to achieve it.

 

(One of the best definitions is from Earl Nightingale: “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.”)

 

“Motivational” speakers can pump us up with a lot of energy.

 

Folks like Anthony Robbins can have a crowd jumping up and down, yelling and carrying on (and he does incredible work in my opinion).

 

The real challenge is how to sustain energy through the many challenges we face in life.

 

Challenges such as death of a loved one, losing one’s job, financial setbacks, a health crisis.

 

How can we sustain energy, positive outlook, cheerfulness and motivation through the stickiest patches?

 

Lots of factors are involved. Awareness is one of the keys.

 

Let’s take death of a loved one. One of the hardest.

 

Dr. Madan Kataria is the founder of Laughter Yoga. I had a question for him during my Laughter Yoga Teacher training.

 

When we had Laughter Yoga on Saturday morning, I would feel fantastic, positive and motivated. What a great way to start the weekend.

 

Then on Sunday, I was angry all day. This went on for weeks until it cleared.

 

Dr. Kataria explained that in India when there is a death in the family, everyone expressed their grief. They cried, they wailed. In our western society, we tend not to do that. We hold it in. Where we hold it in is in the diaphragm.

 

Shaking up the diaphragm with laughter for an hour released some of the trapped emotion.

 

 

 

Holding on to grief, or any emotion, takes energy. Why?

 

Because it involves tightening the muscles and keeping them tight.

 

Try this: tense any muscle. The bicep is a good one.

 

Now, keep tensing it forever.

 

That is what we westerners do. Only we are not so aware of it.

 

What happens is the muscle continues to be tense. We turn off our awareness of that tension.

 

We could call this stress. The muscle is tensed or stressed…continuously.

 

It takes a lot of work for the body to be continuously tenses up.

 

This is an energy drag.

 

We have now identified one challenge to having lots of energy.

 

How do we release that tension (stress) in the body?

 

Lots of ways.

 

Laughter worked for me. Meditation works. Exercise can be helpful. Guided relaxations. These are just a few.

 

What methods do you think you will find most effective?

 

We all have some variation of this tension or stress.

Question everything governments say and do. They will be acting entirely out of self-interest. They will deceive you, lie to you, all the while they are reaching into your back pocket to grab what they think is theirs.

Edward Bernays, The Father Of American Propaganda

 

“In short, even though I regarded myself as being a critical thinker when it came to consumer purchases and politics, I have to admit that I have been bamboozled more times than I care to admit…

 

And so have the citizens of other nations been bamboozled, including the “Good Germans” in the Third Reich, whose fascist leaders made evil use of America’s own Edward Bernays and his insights into what he called “The Engineering of Consent” (the title of an essay that he wrote in 1947).

 

In that essay, Bernays defined “engineering consent” as the art of manipulating people. He maintained that “entire populations, which were undisciplined or lacking in intellectual or definite moral principles, were vulnerable to unconscious influence and thus susceptible to wanting things that they do not need. This is achieved by manipulating desires on an unconscious level. The central idea behind the engineering of consent is that the public or people should not be aware of the manipulation taking place.” (From the March 1947 issue of the Annals of the American Academy of poliltical and Social Science.)

 

 

Cunning De-stigmatization Campaigns Were Invented by Bernays

 

Bernays was hired by the American Tobacco Company in their efforts to expand market share for tobacco, by designing what is now called a “de-stigmatization campaign” to make cigarette smoking by women OK. The now infamous publicity stunt involved hiring a group of attractive flapper girls – each smoking a cigarette – to march down Broadway Avenue in New York’s 1929 Easter parade. He labelled the stunt the “Torches of Freedom” march. Bernays’ de-stigmatization propaganda campaign worked like a charm and within 2 or 3 generations, lung cancer has become a leading cause of death in American women. It worked like a charm…..

 

One of Bernays most influential ”accomplishments” occurred in the mid- to late 1940s, when he was hired by ALCOA (the Aluminum Company of America) to orchestrate a public relations campaign to convince the public that it would be good to add ALCOA’s highly toxic by-product (fluoride salts) to the nation’s drinking water supplies under the guise of preventing tooth decay. It was one of Bernays’ most successful campaigns, with some state legislatures passing laws that compelled reluctant municipalities to fluoridate their water with the toxic waste product that had been responsible for poisoned – for decades – the air, soil, water, food, livestock and many other living things surrounding ALCOA’s manufacturing plants. The aluminum industry, with the help of the American Dental Association (who is still in denial about the serious neurotoxicity of their mercury fillings), got rid of their poisonous by-products and made a profit at the same time!

 

Interestingly, a highly paid ($750,000 per year) ALCOA attorney named Oscar Ewing had been appointed by Harry Truman to be head of the US Public Health Service in 1947. Ewing had been in leadership positions in the Democratic National Committee since 1940 and he had twice been a Special Assistant to the U.S. Attorney General.

 

Obedient to the hidden agenda of the powerful aluminum industry, he and Bernays orchestrated a national fluoridation campaign that, over several years, fluoridated some 90 American cities. Opponents to the fluoride program that correctly suspected that there was a (now proven) conspiracy between industry and government were propagandized as “deranged”. Today they would be denigrated as “conspiracy theorists”.

Adolf Hitler and Josef Goebbels were big fans of Bernays

 

The sociopathic German fascists Adolf Hitler and Josef Goebbels, both of whom skilled serial liars and also anti-Semitic, were big fans of Bernays, who was a Jew.

 

I end this column with a number of quotes about propaganda from some famous fascists who made “good” use of the insights of his writings. My hope is that readers will apply what can be learned from this piece to the propaganda that is happening both politically and commercially in our nation.
