Is Killing Ever Justified? Mastery Newsletter January 13, 2025
We watched a movie last night that gave me pause.
Caused me to think about this question, is killing ever justified?
“Nr. 24” is a movie is about Norway’s greatest war hero, Gunnar Sønsteby.
During the Second World War, his “Oslo gang” carried out countless daring acts of sabotage.
He and his “gang” killed many Germans and Norwegians.
Were they justified in those killings?
After the war Sønsteby gave talks about his involvement.
He said many people believe that health is the most important thing in life. Sønsteby disagreed.
He said freedom is the most important thing.
In fighting for freedom, killing is justified, Sønsteby maintained.
They executed collaborators. Norwegians who were complicit in the torture of Norwegians by the occupying Germans.
The movie is superbly done. (no surprise…I have never seen a bad Norwegian movie.)
When a movie causes me to think more deeply about such fundamental questions in life it makes a deep impact.
Two fundamental questions raised:
Is killing justified at times and is freedom more important than health?
Here is the preview of the film. Nr. 24 (2024) – IMDb
